Loon Lake – Washington Here We Come

June 7, 2021

For the last year we have been watching real estate in a number of areas. One of those areas is Eastern Washington, specifically Stevens and Lincoln Counties. Why? Because there’s lots of forest . . . and we LOVE the forest! We love hiking and wandering through the forest. However, forests are not created equal. For example, from what we’ve seen so far, in Montana and some parts of Idaho the forests are primarily lodgepole pines such as this, but typically thicker than in this pic.

This type of forest is easy to navigate through. But, in Washington the forests have a lot more undergrowth such as this . . .

While this type of forest is mind bogglingly gorgeous, it is much more difficult to navigate. Not only that but, because of the diversity of foliage, my allergies were triggered big time and there seemed to be a lot more insects!

When we first got to Washington we needed a place to stay for one night. We found a host on boondockerswelcome.com in Loon Lake. It was an interesting place where, over the years, his property became more of an RV park with a number of permanent residents. The only place he had available for us was an open field with no hookups. No problem. That’s what boondocking is all about . . . and, best of all, it was free! 🙂

The weather was such that we were able to eat dinner outside, at least until the mosquitos showed up. The road (1st pic) was a good place to walk the boys and it was quiet, allowing for a good night’s sleep :-). Next morning me and the boys were happy to go on a nice long walk. Then we packed up and hit the road, headed to Kettle Falls.

To be continued . . .
