Hi. Max here. Well, it has been four and a half months since Rex left us. I sure miss him even though he could be a real pain in the butt sometimes. The good thing about it all is I get to sleep on the bed with Mom and Dad now and I get all the attention. Even so, it’s not the same without my big brother. But, I’ve been making lots of other doggie friends here at The Ranch. There are sooo many dogs here, big ones, small ones and everything in between. I guess Sophie is my best friend. She’s a Shih Tzu and Bichon mix. I guess she’s kinda cute. What do you think? We doggie sat her one day and she drove me crazy!!

Mom calls her my girlfriend and says we look good together, but I’m not too sure about the whole thing. She’s a lot younger than me and she’s a wild one!! I have a hard time keeping up with her!
Then there’s Tico and Zoe who live down the street. We go over to their place sometimes and hang out on their patio. Zoe is a cute brown and black furry Chihuahua mix. She doesn’t pay much attention to me but she likes to cuddle up with Mom or Dad. Tico is really unique looking. His face is half black and half white. I can’t even guess what mix he is. Mom thinks he’s part Border Collie but his Mom and Dad don’t even know. When we get to their gate he growls at me like he’s trying to be fierce. When we go in, he chases me for a second and then leaves me alone. Silly dog! Mom loves to pet him. She say he has such a sweet face. Whatever.
Another friend is Allie, a gentle and attractive white Golden Retriever who gets waaay too much attention from Mom and Dad for my liking. Then there’s another Sophie and her sister, Gracie, who are Cavachons (Cavalier King Charles and Bichon mix). They’re not as friendly as Allie so Mom and Dad don’t dote over them the way they do over Allie.
There are others who we see while out walking but we don’t really hang out with them. We recently met Emma who is a white Labradoodle (Lab and Poodle mix). She seems pretty cool. She’s way bigger than me, but nice. We even met a little one named Charlie who looks almost exactly like me! Twins! Never saw that coming.
It has been getting hot lately so we’re spending more time outside on the “veranda”. Mom says it’s 91 today. She and Dad aren’t looking forward to Summer. The neighbor, who has been here for 18 years, says they’ve seen it get to 108! Yikes! What are we gonna do? I may have to consider letting Mom put water on me, but is it really worth the indignity?
Mom decided to shave me today. Not sure why it’s necessary and, quite frankly, it’s embarrassing and I don’t like it. I suppose I feel a little better though. Dad says it’s the best shave job Mom’s ever done on me and that I look quite handsome (what’s handsome?). I wonder what Sophie will think.
