We had no idea who Crazy Horse was or his significance is history so we decided to visit his Memorial. For those of you who don’t know about Crazy Horse, he was born into the Oglala Lakota tribe near Rapid City, South Dakota. The history is quite interesting. To read it you can click here.
A sculptor by the name of Korczak Ziolcowski decided to create a memorial depicting the likeness of Crazy Horse. Here is his explanation regarding why Crazy Horse was chosen.

If I remember correctly, work on the monument began in 1948 but much of the work is unfinished. It is funded solely by admission fees and donations to the memorial.
This is the scale model of what the finished sculpture would look like, but out of granite of course.
