Bonners Ferry – Back to Idaho

June 17, 2021

We detoured over to Washington because there was just a small area we were interested in. We got that out of the way so we could check out Bonners Ferry and then move on to the much larger areas in Montana we want to see.

The best boondocking place we could find in Bonners Ferry was the Boundary County Fairgrounds which boasts a beautiful park with a large covered picnic area, as well as basketball and tennis courts. It’s quite a popular place for young kids with its great grassy areas and playground. After-school activities abound, as well as high schoolers hanging out. By mid-evening the park is mostly empty and the only ones left in the parking lot are those of us who are boondocking. There is a 72 hours maximum to park so tonight (6/8) is our last night.

We took the dogs and walked over to what might be considered old town Bonners Ferry. We found it quite charming although a bit run down in spots.

So cute right? Here are the City Building and Courthouse.

Some of the local businesses have the cutest names too.

The Visitor Center was closed but the outside was so nice! Note the paw prints in the walkway! Those are definitely not Rex’s or Max’s!!! LOL

Outside the library was a Fallen Hero Memorial. We were amazed to see only a few names listed. God bless those vets!

We decided we would come back later without the dogs so we could check out a couple of the shops and end up at the cute wine tasting place that opens at 3:00 pm. We found a couple of vintage resale shops that had the most amazing old stuff in them. What a blast from the past that was!

After perusing the shops we headed over to the Heart Rocks Winery to experience the local offerings and were so disappointed to find it closed. What? Why? 😦  We waited for a while but nobody came to open it so we headed back to the rig. Since we were leaving the next morning we wouldn’t have an opportunity to come back. Sigh . . .

To be continued . . .
