Retired, but not idle.

December 28, 2021

So, I’ve been thinking about how I want to continue with this blog since our big travel adventure is over and our everyday lives are probably not that interesting now. I will update on a couple of things though. First, my legs are still in the healing process from the injuries back in August (see post from 8/28/21). I figured it would take some time, and it is. My car hasn’t been repaired yet because the dealer is still waiting for one part. With all the supply chain disruption stuff going on, I’m not surprised. At least we can still use the car in the meantime (with modified seatbelts and no airbags!).

Second, we’re looking at selling our motorhome and getting a 5th wheel instead. For those of you who don’t know the difference, a 5th wheel is the kind that hooks onto the bed of a truck and is towed that way. Here is an example:

And this is our motorhome:

Why switch? Well, there’s a few reasons. One is that a truck would be really useful to us. Another is that there are fewer things that can break and/or go wrong on a 5th wheel and I believe they are probably cheaper to insure. Another is money. We can sell our motorhome for a lot more than we would pay for a used 5th wheel.

Of course, there are some trade-offs. The main one is that 5th wheels have a lot less basement storage than motorhomes. Can we say DOWNSIZE . . . again? Gulp!

Anyway, we’re looking at a very nice 5th wheel for sale here at the Ranch. If that deal goes through we’ll be really busy getting the motorhome ready to sell. I’ll keep you posted on that.

By the way, I just want to say to those of you who read my blog how much I appreciate and feel blessed by your interest in our lives and adventures. I hope you enjoy the reading and I will continue to write about our goings on. The next post will be about the second lot we bought here at the Ranch to use as a rental.
