Eureka! – What have we found?

June 20, 2021

Hehehe. The towns of Eureka and nearby Rexford were areas we were very interested in seeing. The tiny community of Rexford, as it turns out, is more of a RV park than an typical residential community. There were some amazing, but very expensive views!

Eureka is a mixed bag of beautiful ranches and run down areas. We reserved three nights at a place called Jerry’s Saloon and RV Park. Let me tell you, they ought to let the RV park part go because they really didn’t have it figured out. The folks were friendly and helpful though. When we arrived the bartender ran out to direct us where to go. When we got to the RV area, the Bookkeeper (Roberta) came out to help as well as Shane who grows the cannabis for the two dispensaries on the property! Talk about a mixed bag! LOL. There is also a golf course and a restaurant. The saloon seemed very popular and got busy after 3:00 pm. After we got settled we had dinner at the restaurant. The food was good and we had some leftovers!

Instead of boring you with the details about the downsides of this place, and there were a few, I’ll tell you about the upsides :-). First there was the beautiful golf course that we could look at from our spot. Also notice the beautiful cloudy mountains in the background. Ahhhh.

Then there were the deer! Love those tails!

And the ducks . . . can you say CUTE!!!

On our last day there we stopped at a little museum that had some really interesting things. Anybody remember these typewriters??

A schoolhouse.

A church.

And an old wagon.

I’m glad we did the museum tour. It was pretty cool seeing all that old stuff and learning a little of the history. The lady working in the museum told us that Eureka had, at one time, been a big logging town and was very prosperous until the government came in and took over the land. Now it is a very depressed area and, unfortunately it shows.

To be continued . . .
