So . . . I LOVED Deadwood!! It is the neatest little town with lots of quaint old buildings and western history. There were also some more modern ones such as Starbucks, which was probably the nicest one I’ve ever seen and quite busy!

They had a trolley that, for a buck, would pick you up right at the entrance to the rodeo grounds and take you down to Main Street, which was quite the bustling tourist attraction.

Downtown there were all kinds of shops, restaurants, street artisans, saloons and such. Much of the “theme” of Deadwood is around the story of Will Bill Hickok and the legend of “The Dead Man’s Hand”. You can read more about it here.

Saloon #10 is a working restaurant, whiskey bar and museum. It is famous because it’s where Wild Bill allegedly was killed. It’s quite the place and packed full of memorabilia and old pictures, like these of Wild Bill. It would probably take at least a couple of hours to see everything in there.

There is a also a place called Outlaw Square where they hold concerts in what is called the Grand Bandstand.

On Independence Day there was to be a fireworks show in Deadwood’s sister City, Lead. We were going to drive there (about a mile) to watch the show but our neighbors told us that they went last year and it took them two hours to get out of Lead after the show! Yikes! After some discussion we decided to forego the show since we’d seen dozens of fireworks shows before. So, as we were sitting in the rig I saw a flash, looked out the window and found that we could see the fireworks from right outside through this little opening. EHAW!!! What luck! The lighting was a little weird so the pics are not real clear :-\. What was really cool is that a thunderstorm had started so we were getting lightening and thunder right along with the fireworks.

What a great show!!!! The boys were feeling patriotic as well 😀

The next day our neighbors were incredulous that we were able to see the show from our spot. They had gone into Lead but got rained out and had to leave. What a shame!
Happy Independence Day America!!
To be continued . . .
