Day 1 – The Gift

                    Owl: Yes! Right on target!!
Owl: Yes! Right on target!!

We spent last night at Vail Lake KOA campground near Temecula. After a good night’s sleep we took the boys for a walk. From what we saw its a pretty nice campground, with a few exceptions. First, they only had 30 amp electric. 50 amp is better. They had low hanging trees! Really, with high profile rigs coming and going? They had very few trash receptacles where responsible, poop picking up dog owners could deposit their little bag of goodies :-\

But I digress. As soon as we got the car hooked to the coach a nice gentleman named Glenn came over from his site to say hello. We were chatting when, all of a sudden, we heard a loud SPLAT and there on the hood of my newly washed car was what looked like a giant spill of Milk of Magnesia! AGH! We all looked up to find this gorgeous but very happy Barn owl.

If you live in California you know how crazy the traffic is. Well, it was no different driving up the 15. Lots of big rigs and lots of nutty speeders, cutting in and out of lanes as if the rest of us were invisible. Just before the Barstow area we started getting wind and that was lots of fun. :-\. Going through Barstow we happened to see this giant ice cream cone.

Well, ice cream being our favorite food in the world, we were immediately caught in its tractor beam and ended up taking a break with a nice cup of creamy pistachio! YUM! We got back on the road and traveled through Death Valley, which is a strange and interesting place with amazing rock formations!

Traffic was very light so Larry insisted that it was time for me to try my hand at driving the coach. I was terrified but he was right (did I just say that?) Except for the wind, the conditions were good and the road was mostly straight. So I drove the last 27 miles into Pahrump (Nevada) to my sister’s house.

Other than almost missing a stop sign, I got us there without any mishaps. I was sweating bullets the whole way! I like it better when Larry drives ;-).
