Catching Up

December 16, 2021

For those of you who have been following us, I apologize for the drop off in posts. Everything became such a whirlwind and the blog had to go on the back burner for a while. Not my intention but my bad 😦 . Anyway, I’m going to give you the Readers Digest version to catch up.

We worked our way down the coast, staying here and there. Some of you probably know that, before we left on our trip, we bought a lot at the Rancho California RV Resort in Aguanga, CA, (www.ranchorvresort.com) which is just east of Temecula in Riverside County. In our absence the lot has been rented but there were two nights available that worked out great for us. So we stayed there the two nights and then continued on, back to Descanso to deal with the rest of our stuff such as tools, outdoor furniture, etc. We sold the property the end of September but the new owners, who we already knew, were gracious enough to let us boondock on the property while we finished up. We packed up a second storage trailer and then headed to Lakeside where friends let us boondock on their property for a couple of weeks until the first week of November when our lot would be available for us. The move, however, was not without challenges.

We had to tow one of the storage trailers up to the lot to unload some things that would stay there. The plan was to take it up in the morning, unload, and return it to Lakeside in the afternoon. So we headed out in our old beater ranch truck with the 24′ trailer in tow and me following in Larry’s Explorer. When we got to Fallbrook the truck broke down. Thankfully, we were right at an off-ramp so we were able to get out of the traffic. After some inspection Larry determined that a radiator hose had blown and thought he could fix it, so I headed off to the nearest auto parts store to get the necessary items. It wasn’t easy at all but he replaced the part and we finally got back on our way. You go Larry!!

When we were about ten miles from the resort the truck broke down again. Ugh. Thankfully it happened right by a very large turnout that we were able to pull into and be safely off the very busy two lane CA-79. Larry inspected and determined that, although his repair job held just fine, one whole side of the radiator had blown out!! Good grief! Once again we called roadside assistance to come tow the truck. In the meantime we needed to get the trailer to the lot so we took our chances hooking it to the Explorer. Why was it chancy you ask? Well, because the trailer was a bit too heavy for the Explorer, we didn’t have the correct tow ball and we didn’t have towing mirrors so we could see absolutely nothing beyond the sides of the trailer. But, since it was only ten miles, we took it slow and easy, annoying everyone behind us of course, LOL. But . . . we made it :-).

The truck was delivered to a repair shop and it would be about a week before we could pick it up. We had to get the trailer back down to Lakeside where we’re storing them, but how to pull it? The Explorer was not a safe option this time because of the distance. Although it wasn’t ideal because of the gas prices, we finally decided we’d have to bring the motorhome up and pull the trailer with that. Aside from costing a fortune in gas it worked out. We hauled the trailer back down, finished packing up, hooked up my Explorer and, with me following again in Larry’s Explorer, made the final move to the lot. Here is the view from the back of our patio. AAAAAHHHHHH . . . 😀
