A Taste of Bavaria

August 24, 2021

The poor boys had to share their space in the car with backpacks and tote bags filled with stuff we thought we would need for a week on the road. It was a little snug but they did OK.

Larry had already obtained a one night motel reservation in Wenatchee, which was about halfway to our destination of Blaine and he secured a reservation in Blaine ahead of time.

Wenatchee is a medium sized town with a population of around 35,000. The street our motel was on was like “Motel Row”. It wasn’t a great place to walk the dogs. The sidewalks are so close to the street that it was a frightening. But, we found that, if we crossed the street, we could utilize a bank or other business parking lot. Whew! We just had to wait for a break in the busy traffic.

The dogs did pretty well in the motel. Neither of them bark much unless someone knocks on the door and then Rex sounds off. Max gives a shout out occasionally when he wants a treat or a walk but it’s short and to the point LOL. It was pretty warm there but our A/C did an OK job and we got a reasonably good night’s sleep. The next morning we packed up again and continued on.

On the way we stopped in Leavenworth which is just the cutest little Bavarian village surrounded by gorgeous forested hills. It’s just so darn charming and enchanting!

Even the City building is kind of cute.

After taking in some of the charm and beauty of Leavenworth, we continued on. Going up the I-5 the traffic got heavier and heavier the closer we got to Seattle. It was stop and go for a while, a reminder of San Diego freeways.

After we got past the Seattle area it was pretty smooth sailing. It probably would’ve been a lot worse if the Canadian border was open but I’m thinking that closure worked in our favor. It was really weird though seeing the border crossing with NO traffic!

We eventually made it to Blaine and found our motel, which was very old and rundown, but clean and bug free, and right across the street from Birch Bay.

Did you see those skyscrapers in the distance? That’s Vancouver, in Canada! Here’s a better picture.

Vancouver is a cool city. We were there many years ago. Don’t know if we’ll ever get back up to Canada. Damn Covid!

To be continued . . .
