A River Runs Through It

May 15, 2021

After that last KOA, we have been lucky to find boon docking sites. For those of you who may not know about boon docking, it’s where you stay for free, usually, on forest service or BLM land. You’re literally docking (parking) in the boonies. The sites are usually primitive with no amenities other than the scenery. Campgrounds can cost anywhere from $39 to $150 a night so we’re all in on boon docking whenever we can or find a U.S. Forest Service campground. They usually cost around $12. Much easier on the budget. It takes a lot of planning and logistics, looking up coordinates on google maps to see if the road, and the site, is suitable for our RV.

The next site we found was in northern Utah, near the city of Hyrum, which was a very pretty city. They drive there and the site was GORGEOUS! Open grassy areas with some trees and the beautiful Blacksmith Fork River. We made burritos and Mojitos and sat by the river.

Rex enjoyed the peaceful sounds of the river too!

While we sat there we watched a Great Black Wasp taking food (worm?) to its subterranean nest. Fascinating! If you’ve never seen one, here is a pic (not the one we saw): https://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/2012/09/02/PsyKo/b85f64.jpg

We had a peaceful night and, in the morning got back on the road.

To be continued . . .
